Guirao secures the first triumph of Fallas in Valencia

The Valencia Bullring officially opened the 2026 Fallas Fair with a novillada without picadors featuring several promising young prospects. On an afternoon marked by the anticipation surrounding the start of the fair, local novillero Israel Guirao secured the first success of the cycle by cutting an ear.

The student from the Valencia Bullfighting School delivered the most convincing performance of the day against the third bull. With a composed and elegant approach, Guirao displayed an impressive sense of rhythm and control, particularly in his series on both sides. As his performance grew in intensity, he connected strongly with the crowd, who rewarded his effort with a well-earned ear.

Daniel García comes close to a trophy

Another notable name of the afternoon was Daniel García, a student of the José Cubero “Yiyo” Bullfighting School, who came very close to winning a trophy with the sixth bull.

The young novillero produced moments of great depth, especially during a series of high-quality left-handed passes that caught the attention of the spectators. Despite a strong request from the crowd, the president did not grant the ear, and García was instead awarded a lap of honour in recognition of his performance.

Promising signs from González and Bermejo

The novillada also produced interesting moments from Alejandro González and Ian Bermejo, who faced the first two bulls of the afternoon.

Both novilleros showed their best work with the right hand, demonstrating determination and promising technique. Their efforts were acknowledged by the audience with salutes from the ring after receiving applause.

Meanwhile, Clovis and Hugo Masiá were unable to find clear opportunities with their opponents and were met with silence following their performances.

This novillada officially marked the beginning of the 2026 Fallas season, one of the most important fairs at the start of the Spanish bullfighting calendar, which over the coming days will once again place Valencia at the centre of bullfighting attention.
