Valencia, for Valencia
Several Spanish cities have shown solidarity with the victims of the DANA storm. There is no need to specify which one—we all know it refers to the devastating natural disaster that struck the Mediterranean last autumn, leaving behind loss of life, destruction, and entire communities in ruins.
Madrid, Albacete, and Jaén have already organised bullfighting festivals to honour the victims and raise funds for those who lost everything. These events have served as both tributes and sources of relief, bringing the bullfighting world together in support of a greater cause.
Now, it’s Valencia’s turn. A tribute from the Valencians themselves. Valencia, for (and with) Valencia. The festival will take place on Sunday, 11th May, at the historic bullring on Xàtiva Street. This promises to be an emotional event, as the entire Valencian bullfighting community has come together to make it happen.
The festival will feature young bulls from Álvaro Núñez, with an exceptional lineup of four Valencian matadors: Enrique Ponce, a legendary figure who retired last year; Vicente Barrera, an icon of Valencian bullfighting, returning from retirement for this special occasion; José María Manzanares, a leading torero from the Alicante region; and Román, representing the new generation of Valencian matadors.
Adding to the excitement, novillero Simón Andreu, a standout student from the Valencia Bullfighting School, will also take part. He made his debut with horses last year and had a successful appearance before his hometown crowd during the recent Fallas Fair.
There will also be a special final bull, from the Adolfo Martín ranch, for an elite team of four recortadores: José Pascual “Josepa” (Silla), Roberto Alegre (Puzol), Noel Ribera (Museros), and Javier Hernándiz (Montroy). These skilled specialists, highly popular in the region, have joined forces with the matadors to support this noble cause.
Beyond being a rare opportunity to witness legends like Ponce and Barrera in the ring once again, this festival is a chance to contribute to a cause that truly matters. This is not just an event for Valencians, but for all passionate bullfighting fans. Additionally, it marks the final event of the season at Valencia’s bullring before it undergoes major lighting renovations ahead of the 2026 Fallas Fair—yet another reason not to miss this extraordinary occasion.
Tickets are now available at Servitoro.com. Be part of this historic event!
